Description:

Laboratory Supervisor needed for a reference laboratory in central California. Selected candidate will directly supervise 10-15 employees, 30-50 indirectly. The Laboratory Supervisor will oversee operations on the evening and night shift. Majority of hours will be worked on evenng shift but may have to come in periodically to observe operations on the night shift as well. Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

§ Directly supervises employees in the general laboratory. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems; and perform the same or similar duties and responsibilities as the microbiology technologists:

§ Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.

§ Examines smears for organisms and blood cells. Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.

§ Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.

§ Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.

§ Performs all required specimen preparation and labeling.

§ Completes required records, reports, and appropriate entries into the computer and/or all required logs.

§ Interprets clinical laboratory tests for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits, obtaining information for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

§ Repeats abnormals, calls panic values, verifies results, and corrects incorrect results.

§ Answers questions posed by physicians, physician's office staff, or patients concerning procedures, normal and therapeutic ranges, interpretations and all other areas of consultation.

§ Recommends methodologies and equipment for the laboratory.

Salary: $73,000-94,000

Requirements
California Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist Required
Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology or closely related field
Master’s degree preferred but not required
Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology or equivalent
5+ years of experience required, 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred
Must be a US citizen or eligible to work in the US for any employer. No sponsorship will be provided.
